installerthat won't run. But if you don't have access to a Snow Leopard Mac to run the installer, the following describes how to download, install and run Warcraft III on a Mac (or Linux for that matter) under Crossover:
  1. Download the game installer from Battle.net (Battle.net account required). Bonus: You can download the Mac version instead and skip steps 2-5 using asecret link (i.e. change 'win' to 'mac' in the download URL)!
  2. Open the resulting file in Crossover—on a Mac, at least, double-clicking it should do so.
  3. Create a new XP bottle to install it in—I have all my Blizzard games in one bottle, YMMV. You do notneed to choose 'Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos' as the application to install in this step; choosing 'Other Application' is fine.
  4. The Warcraft III installer will start to download. I recommend choosing 'My Mac Desktop' as the install location so that you can access it easily for a later step, and so you can delete the installer when you're finished, as it takes up most of a gigabyte.
  5. When it finishes downloading, it will attempt to install and fail. When the installation generates an error in Crossover, choose 'Cancel Installation.' If you did choose 'Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos' in Step 4, the patch 1.26a installation will fail as well. That's okay.
  6. Open the Warcraft III Installer folder. Inside, you'll find 'Installer.exe'. (You'll also find 'Installer' aka 'Installer.app'. This can be used to install Warcraft III on a Mac or virtual machine running OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard or earlier.)
  7. Open 'Installer.exe' in Crossover (again, on a Mac, you should be able to just double-click it).
  8. This time, select 'Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos' from the Supported Applications list. Install it into the bottle you previously created (or into a new bottle; it doesn't matter).
  9. Wait for the installations of the game and the 1.26a patch to complete, input your license code (you can purchase one from Blizzard), and enjoy playing Warcraft III!

Tested on Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 with Crossover 14.0.3.

Reign Mac OS

The Mac (short for Macintosh) is a family of personal computers made by Apple. The Mac line began in 1984 and continues to the present day, but the brand names, processors, operating systems and development tools used on Macs have changed significantly over time.

Classic MacOS (previously simply called System Software) was the operating system preloaded on Macs from 1984 to 2001. macOS (previously called Mac OS X) is a Unix-based operating system that has been preloaded on Macs from 2001 to today.

NetHack has been available for classic MacOS since at least NetHack 3.0.5, released in 1989. It continued to be supported during the long reign of NetHack 3.4.3, but it is unknown if NetHack 3.6.4 will build or run on it. In the NetHack source code, files relevant to classic MacOS are stored in sys/mac.

Reign Mac Os X

NetHack is currently supported for modern macOS (ie Mac OS X). Since macOS is a Unix-based system, the build files are in sys/unix, not in sys/mac. It can be compiled with tiles, according to this discussion.
